Brady Clark is a licensed physical therapist. She's trying to recover from the death of her only remaining family member, and lives a life that is orderly and controlled, refusing to allow anyone or anything to upset that balance.

Skylar Preston likes to live on the edge, whether that means fast bikes or fast women. She depends on no one but herself - life has taught her one thing no one hangs around long enough to matter. Before she can be released from the hospital after a serious motorcycle accident, she has to meet with one of the physical therapists. She doesn't like depending on others, which makes Brady Clark's role in her life obtrusive and annoying.

Both women are struggling with the ghosts of their pasts and a new relationship could be disastrous, but if they can listen to their hearts, it just might be worth the risk.

I read the sample and thought this seems good. Let me state right off I'm not a fan of instant love through eye gaze. If you like that you may enjoy it. I didn't realize this was instant (or I'd have passed), but due to their earlier damaging life experiences they both fought it, rather than actual relationship development. Maybe it's semantics, but that was how the author presented their inner monologues, I'd prefer fighting an attraction vs. fighting she is the one but I don't deserve love or she's too reckless to trust my heart to her. I expected more than damaged survivors are attracted to each other and both can give up their one night stand existence. Amazingly they never met at their bar of choice until the one with the needs to save everyone complex notices the other falling out in front. The formula didn't work for me.

Spoilers below or things I really didn't like.
The blowing up of the shop seemed dumb and Widow's backstory too excessive. His name's origin had the mystery, but his former gf being raped and killed had to be shared. She's reckless on a bike, so I can't be with her, but run with a cane into a burning building that cements my love. oh and as an epilogue she's designed her gf's bike, really....

Too me it all came down to choices and most of the author's did not work for me. I wanted to like dykes on bike. They didn't even ride together, no mention of sf pride or other grrls riding together but spent time discussing commute to bike shop from the south bay. There so many awesome road stretches to describe, but that was another miss if the desire was to give a Bay Area flair.

Second to None (Audible Audio Edition) LT Marie Hilarie Mukavitz Bold Strokes Books Inc Books Reviews

This could have been really good, but it spent about 60% of the book talking about specific details of their jobs and self-pity away from each other. It's obviously not realistic to have the leads spend all their time together in a book, but a paragraph or two every chapter isn't enough time for readers to get the sense that these characters have a special connection. When they do finally get together it's a sex scene then suddenly it's weeks later and life has been bliss, no mention of the one character who used to need to work two jobs, 18 hour days or being exhausted anymore. Very little time was dedicated to developing a relationship. It's just immediate angst then unrealistic happiness.
This is a rather delightful story. There is an evolving attraction between a physical therapist and her patient that is presented in a very believable, beautifully handled fashion, including all manner of ups and downs as might be expected between these two women. This is a winner. Incredible!

Skylar Preston, Sky, is severely injured in a motorcycle accident where she was dramatically thrown from her cycle and incurred a major leg injury. She has deep roots and an established business in the Stanford, Ca area. Very talented and dynamic, but she has some complicated baggage from her youth and this accident, naturally, comes at a most inopportune time. She is also capable of slinging a whole host of smart-ass retorts and doesn't hesitate to flip them at any and all, but perhaps most especially at the physical therapist who kind of wangled her into doing this post surgery therapy in the first place. Nevertheless, Sky knows she is feeling something way different toward her physical therapist than she ever has for anyone not in her family. Intriguing!

Brady Clark is an intern while she is completing her Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. The internship doesn't pay, but it is essential. So, add-on jobs are needed to cover costs. That has Brady pretty much running her tail off seven days a week and more than eight hours a day. But she is young, very healthy, and capable, plus it is her choice and she really prefers to always be in control. Sky kind of knocks her socks off though, but it is a career ender if one has sex with a patient. So Brady puts all brakes on while she is assisting Sky during her healing process. However, there is a huge 'elephant in the living room' that is never really banished from Brady's consciousness and could very well have her lose out on something she wants and probably needs. Brady, I love you but you really need to lighten up!

When Brady and Sky are together, the undercurrents are astounding, but deep-seated and profoundly ingrained attitudes appear like fundamental and impenetrable walls. Pile on top of that, Sky has a profitable business, with employees who are like family. Brady's pursuit of a starting position after receiving her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in reality has a high percentage chance of requiring a long distance move. Sheesh, these two need to be together though. One of them may simply need to tell the other, she is “second to none”. Fantabulous!

This is a nice love story between two women who both have pasts that haunt them. It's a good read that I would recommend.
I'm so glad I had the time to read this in one sitting because it's a first rate story with endearing characters and a pulsing telling of it.
The lead characters fight their attraction and expend a lot of energy trying to deny it. But final give in and together work through the fears that keep them apart. It takes a second near tragedy to remove the last of the barriers to their love.
Skylar Preston is a motorcycle enthusiast and sometimes doesn't think about the consequences of what she does while on her bike. When she crashes and needs therapy, Brady Clark likes what she see in Skylar, but she doesn't like her attitude about life and her bike. Brady just lost her sister to a motorcycle accident and Skylar is acting just like her. When the therapy is done...then what?
